Emma Goldman Now! Featuring Abigail Robin

April 16, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

- $8 – $10
Abigail Robin’s one-person performance about the life of anarchist, free-love advocate, and hero Emma Goldman.

Streaming live from the Arts Society of Kingston via Zoom, Abigail Robin presents Emma Goldman Now! Performances on Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17 at 7pm and Sunday April 18 at 2pm.

Emma Goldman (1869-1940), “organic” anarchist, is an iconic hero. An internationally known figure, Emma was deported from the US during WWI due to her anti-war views. She spent time in Russia, but became disillusioned by the country’s authoritarianism. Goldman was an apostle of philosophic anarchism and of voluntary communism, an advocate of free love, and inspiration behind the ACLU. “Now is the time for Emma Goldman!” says old-timer Abigail Robin (1941-2069 (hopefully) ) who began her journey towards “cloning” Emma Goldman in 2004.

In this role Abigail Robin, a retired adjunct in the English and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies departments and EOP tutor at SUNY New Paltz, will present some new notions concerning anarchism (she thinks she’s a philosopher). Some highlights of Ms. Robin’s history: In 1965 she appeared in Spoon River Anthology at Mary Lou’s Café Espresso. She has performed stand-up Comedy at the Coven Club in Nyack, had direct (or indirect) contact with Woody Allen and performed Howard Zinn’s play Emma for the Byrdcliffe Theatre in 2004. She was called an entrepreneur by Joanne Michaels (who is no longer with us) in her book Explorer’s Guide to Hudson Valley. She was called a “promoter with a purpose” by the Woodstock Times in 1986, and she is still looking for her purpose. Abigail is the writer of the unpublished novel Silly Putty and a collection of essays, short stories and observations entitled Confessions of a Tour Guide Who Kept Losing Her Way.
