ASK Presents

ASK Presents is a week-long co-production residency open to professional solo performers and performing groups working in any performing arts genre (dance, theatre, hybrid forms). The aim of ASK Presents is to nurture the production of and develop an audience for new, artistically excellent work in performing arts.

ELIGIBILITY
Professional artists/entities are encouraged to apply. Individuals must be over 18 years old and not currently enrolled in a full-time degree program. Must propose a completed show (not an open rehearsal or in-progress showing) and only evening-length (75 minute minimum) performances will be considered. Please note that this residency is not intended as a forum for a music concert, though musical elements may be an integral part of the performance. Artists will be selected by the Performing Arts Committee.

TIME AND LOCATION
Chosen performances for ASK Presents series will occur on the 2nd or 3rd weekends of the month. We will do our best to accommodate preferences when assigning performance slots.

Performances will be held Friday and Saturday at 8PM AND Sunday at 3PM of SHOW WEEK (3 shows total) with a required community talk back session after one performance of your choosing. There will be a minimum of forty (40) and maximum of ninety (90) seats for each performance. Due to ongoing COVID conditions seating capacity will be at the discretion of ASK. If you are interested in hosting a community workshop during SHOW WEEK, please specify below.

ARTIST RESPONSIBILITIES
Artist is responsible for ALL tech including design and operation of lights, sound, set and/or video. Artist may use any and all technical elements provided in the theatre (click here to see the tech spec sheet). Artist is also responsible for providing materials (specs below) for ASK to use in creating marketing materials.

PRESENTER RESPONSIBILITIES
PRESENTER (Arts Society of Kingston) will provide an EVENT COORDINATOR to facilitate the use of the space, house staff for ticket collection, concessions and ushers, manage online ticket sales (tickets will be $20 for general admission/$15 for members or students), and provide promotion for the event.

COMPENSATION
Artists will receive 60% of gross box office receipts. There is no cost to apply or participate. There is no minimum for ASK.

TIMELINE
Submission deadline: Currently ASK is accepting on-going applications for the 2022 season with a minimum lead time of 3 months.

ASK Member Spotlight Production

ASK Member Spotlight Productions are curated performance opportunities for ASK Members over a single weekend.

ELIGIBILITY
This opportunity is open to members of ASK only. Must propose an evening-length (60-minute minimum) performance. This opportunity is open to any discipline. Spotlight Productions will be selected by the ASK Performing Arts Committee.

TIME AND LOCATION
Chosen performances for ASK Spotlight Productions will occur on a Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday. We will do our best to accommodate preferences when assigning performance slots.

Artist will have access to the space on the afternoon prior to the first performance. Additional time may be rented if needed. The space must be returned to its original state immediately following the final performance.

There will be a minimum of forty (40) and a maximum of ninety (90) seats for each performance. General admission tickets will be $15-$20 each, with a $5 discount for ASK Members and students. If a live stream of the performance is broadcast, the link will be available for $5. At least one performance must be designated “Pay What You Can”. Due to ongoing COVID conditions seating capacity will be at the discretion of ASK.

Artist is also responsible for providing materials for ASK to use in creating marketing materials.

PRESENTER RESPONSIBILITIES
PRESENTER (Arts Society of Kingston) will provide a TECH COORDINATOR to facilitate the use of the space and operate lights/sound if needed, house staff for ticket collection, concessions and ushers, manage online ticket sales, and provide promotion for the event.

COMPENSATION
Artists will receive 80% of gross box office receipts after a $250 minimum to ASK. Note $250 is for the entire weekend of performances.

ASK Member Co-Productions

ASK Member Co-Productions are for “one-off” full-length performances such as concerts, screenings, staged readings, etc.

ELIGIBILITY
This opportunity is open to members of ASK only. Must propose an evening-length (60-minute minimum) performance. This opportunity is open to any discipline. Co-Productions will be selected by the ASK Performing Arts Committee.

TIME AND LOCATION
Performances can be held any night of the week when the theatre space is not already booked. Please apply at least one month in advance for promotion. Performances can be held at any time from 6pm on but must finish by 11pm.

ARTIST RESPONSIBILITIES
Artist is responsible for ALL tech including design and operation of lights, sound, set, and/or video. Artist is also responsible for providing materials for ASK to use in creating marketing materials.

COMPENSATION
Artist may either rent the space for $75/hour and collect 100% of all box office receipts, or split the box office with ASK 80/20 (favoring the artist) after a minimum of $200 in box office receipts has been reached to cover ASK’s costs. Box office split option is for a four hour rental.
